Ryan Da Silvia Memorial Midget Goaltender Award presented to Devyn Leacock
April 4, 2012
The Ryan Da Silva Memorial Midget Goaltender Award was presented for the first time by the Toronto Royals Minor Hockey Club on the evening of Monday April 2nd during a ceremony that was held at Westwood Arenas. The award was established to honour the memory of Ryan Da Silva who played as a goaltender on the club’s 2006/07 Midget ‘AA’ Senior team. Ryan was a beloved member of this team who played the game with intensity and enthusiasm while demonstrating dedication, leadership and a positive “never quit” winning attitude. Sadly, Ryan’s young life was cut short on March 29, 2011 when he succumbed to injuries suffered after a tragic accident.
Ryan’s family and former coaches Joe Fitzgerald and Greg Birley, were on hand to present the Ryan Da Silva Memorial Midget Goaltender Award to Devyn Leacock. Devyn played goal with the Toronto Royals Midget Junior ‘A’ team during the 2011/12 hockey season, and was deemed to have best exemplified the tremendous qualities that Ryan demonstrated throughout the 2006/07 season while playing as a member of the club’s Midget ‘AA’ Senior team.Click here to view a picture of the award presentation.
